The Dakar Rally, which now takes place in Argentina and Chile due to violence in the race’s original area, is the prototypical endurance race across the desert. People drive all sorts of vehicles from huge trucks to motorcycles, to ATVs and of course, cars. There are all sorts of breakdowns due to the extreme physical strain that the drivers put upon their machines.
While the Dakar Rally has never been at the forefront of my sports consciousness, it fascinated me to see these crazy drivers doing everything they can to shave the seconds off of their times. The landscape was also quite spectacular and it would be quite an interesting experience to witness a race like this.
