Dan Richards volunteered at a community center in 2007.

"Every day I would wake up around 8 am and take the subway to Villa Soldati where the head of the after-school program would meet me. Then we would walk to the library or the after-school center, where we would arrive at the same time as the kids. There would always be between three to eight kids there on any given morning, and I worked with them usually one-on-one with English or math homework. I usually worked until the kids had to go to school. Two other days a week, I would take the bus to La Boca Community Center, and then work in the bakery with about five other people baking and preparing bread. I spoke only in Spanish at those two locations, and the staff members were fantastic."
